“I like my teams to play with flair but I like clean sheets as well,” he told the world’s media on Friday afternoon. “We are playing against a very good team on Monday night so we have to be tactically aware. I like my teams go about their jobs in the right way.

“I am usually quite a calm person and hopefully that will come across to the players but if I need to motivate and get them going then I’m quite capable of that as well.”

Shakespeare admits his players are “frustrated” with that sequence of results but insists his focus is purely on making sure they are prepared for everything Liverpool have to throw at them on Filbert Way.

He continued: “They are frustrated and, from speaking to them on a regular basis, they are very frustrated with how things have gone this season. There is enough talent in that dressing room for us to go on a winning run.
